BHBA BARRISTERS LAWRENCE J. BLAKE AWARD goes to Board of Governors Members, Anton Labrentz, Esq. and Brian T. Smith, Esq.

The Beverly Hills Bar Association's Barristers, the “newer” attorneys, represent dedication, enthusiasm, the desire to help others and to make a difference. The Lawrence J. Blake Award, first given in 1985, was established to help foster greater awareness and recognition of Barristers activities and accomplishments.

This year, the Beverly Hills Bar Association's Barristers are proud to acknowledged and honor two of its Barristers Board of Governors who have co-chaired the Roxbury Park Legal Clinic since 2011 — Brian Smith and Anton Labrentz. They, and the team of volunteer attorneys they have recruited and developed, show up faithfully on the first Saturday of each month ready to tackle a diversity of requests for legal assistance from the public.

Brian and Anton have also increased the awareness and outreach of the Roxbury Park Legal Clinic. Typically, there is a line at the door before the Clinic opens. People hear about the Clinic, visit the clinic then recommend it to friends, come back with other questions and talk about the great service being provided.

Brian Smith practices real estate and environmental law with the Law Offices of Thomas J. Smith in Encino.  He is a graduate of University of Notre Dame and received his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law.

Anton Labrentz is a criminal defense attorney, with a focus on DUIs and driving-related cases, at the Law Offices of Mark Rosenfeld. Anton is a graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara and received his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law.

Congratulations Brian and Anton!

Barristers’ “Party for a Cause” Samoshel Fundraiser Benefit a Hit! Thank you to all!

The Beverly Hills Bar Association Barristers’ “SOS Party for a Cause” fundraiser at the House of Blues last month was a spectacular hit! Our generous patrons allowed us to raise funds just shy of our $2000 goal! We thank each and every supporter and volunteer for helping us to continue our mission of preparing and serving meals to the residents of Samoshel Homeless Shelter in Santa Monica every month.

Santa Monica Shelter (SaMoShel) is a 70-bed facility that is part of Ocean Park Community Center’s Interim Housing Program and provides temporary residence and a broad range of programs, including life and social skills classes, as guests work toward permanent housing.

We feel very fortunate to be a part of their mission and helping our community each month! We are also very grateful for all the volunteers that come out every month to make it happen! If you are interested in participating, please contact the Community Outreach Committee Co-Chairs Jeanine Percival Wright (jpwright@rkmc.com) or Anton Labrentz (labrentz@me.com).

If Barrister leaders have additional photos to post of this successful event (this is the only one I have!), please share! A special thank you to the event's main organizer, Gina Tennen, and our entertainer of the evening, DJ Paul Infrared, whom without the night would not have been the success we experienced. Thank you again to everyone who helped and for everyone's generosity!

Press Release Bulletin:

Every month members of the young lawyers section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, called the Barristers, purchase, cook up and serve a dinner to nearly 60 homeless residents of the Santa Monica Homeless Shelter (aka Samoshel). Donations for the program come from the Barristers themselves or their fundraising activities. Most recently, they held a special benefit event at The House of Blues, Hollywood, on April 12th, from which they raised nearly $2000, enough to provide meals at Samoshel for an entire year! Volunteers say it is a great way to give back to the community, gain a little perspective and network with other young like-minded professionals. The Barristers make a real difference!
