For more than 20 years, the owners of thebalticcupboard have created highly coveted Latvian ethnic based cheeses, pastries and baked goods for a small clientele. The cuisine is unique and the delicacies are created from what we consider the best of our mothers’ and grandmothers’ recipes.
Koreatown is home to a hidden gem, Lock & Key a speakeasy and craft cocktail lounge. It seems though, that more and more people are finding out the secret as Ktown was recently named “America’s Hippest Neighborhood” by LA Weekly. “Lock & Key,” with an attached food window called “Stall 239″ that operates separately. Lock & Key, serves craft cocktails and combine the feeling of a upscale mixology lounge with your favorite neighborhood bar for an experience we like to call “neighborhood Mixology”. Finding your way into the bar will also be a bit of a challenge as the entrance is hidden much like a speakeasy from the 1920’s.

I was inspired by the bountiful agriculture and natural beauty of California when creating Chareau. The Aloe Vera plant was my muse, and I wanted to find delicate compliments to the naturally soft and slightly bitter profile. The cucumber adds a sophisticated vegetal quality, while the muskmelon brings a natural sweetness. The lemon peel adds balance and the spearmint mellows the bite of the unaged eau de vie distillate. It all culminates in a refreshing spirit that can be enjoyed both straight and mixed in a well-crafted cocktail.
